Chugging along!

Making a game is a lot of work! Being an indie developer, and making a game while keeping a day job and raising two daughters is… well, it’s really a work of passion. I’ve invested a lot of time and money into this game, and it’s with great happiness that I’m finally seeing things coming together. During the past six months I’ve worked hard, revamping all enemy animations, and adding new game play options that I’d previously not considered, since there was no competition for what I was doing at the time. I’m now finally putting everything together, so that all of these new animations come together in a better game.

I’ll start releasing game videos when I’m about a month from releasing the game, which is going to be… who knows :-) . There’s really no point in rushing things. This is one of my life’s dreams, and there’s no point in rushing a dream.

Below you can finally see an actual game screenshot! The GUI is still being revamped, Frank is still being tweaked, but this is more or less how the game is going to look like. If you like what you see, wait until I show you the rest. Your jaw will drop :-D

Conan O’Brien to star in video game!?

Totally a joke of course, but when I was aligning one of Frank’s face frames into a texture, I couldn’t help but wonder whether our wonderful artist wasn’t thinking about Conan… check it for yourself (Conan left, Frank’s zoomed in face right, just in case you couldn’t differentiate between the two :-) ).

We’re currently doing some new Conan, err, Frank animations (Frank will have 14 different weapons available to him, all with different animations!). As I previously stated, the game will be ready when it’s ready, but soon I’ll be able to start posting some videos showing off some in game animations (only those that don’t reveal our story line ;-) )

Let’s go dancing!

Will Frank dance!? What the hell of beat’m up is this!? Yes, we were off meds when we designed this level, but it turned out to be one of the coolest levels in the game. For now all we can show you is a draft, so that we don’t reveal a thing about our game’s ridiculous story :-)

Downtown

Here’s a draft of what level 2 will look like. We’re currently finishing up on the animations of the enemies, which took us quite a bit more than expected (around a month and a half to get all enemies animated and into the game). This will probably push the release date further so.. no more release dates. The game is done when it’s done :-) What matters is that we’re having fun doing it and that we don’t want to release something that we don’t feel is the best we can do.

We’ll keep you posted on the progress of course :-)

Firearms!

Besides bladed weapons, Frank is going to have some firearms for his trigger happy fingers :-D

Redoing Frank’s animations

We’re now redoing Frank’s animations, which is proving to be quite a challenge. The end results are nothing short of amazing though! Here’s a draft of part of what we’re up to :-D

Lawyers

We’re going to have lawyers as enemies in our game :-D We’re still not revealing a thing about the game’s story (and it’s beginning to be really hard to do that while showing game art). We want to surprise you in a few months! One thing we can tell you, the lawyer’s role is going to be absolutely comical (and also annoying in a good way for the player :-) ).

Some level elements

Here are some props that’ll appear throughout the first level. We’re currently adding new animations to the enemies and also to the levels themselves (e.g. some trash cans burning). The game is looking really good and I’m now sure that we’ll be able to launch it around May/June!

Happy new year!!

Suburban hell

suburban_hell
Here’s a very quick draft of how the first level will look like. This is really a very early draft… we’ve already added a lot more “effects” to this level, but I removed them since they’d reveal part of the game’s story, which I want to keep under wraps until I submit the game to the app store

How Frank turned out!

frank_model_sheet1

This is Frank! When creating Frank we aimed at something that could represent a typical American middle class guy, with a wife, 2.3 kids, living in the suburbs in a house with a white picket fence :-)
